Marty and Carey Uhler (1992-1997) moved to Barcelona in December of 1992 with their three children to lead the Christian Associates International (CA) team in establishing ICB. For the first 3 years, the name of the church was Crossroads International Church of Barcelona. The name “Crossroads” proved problematic so the team changed the name to International Church of Barcelona. After serving 5 years on staff at ICB, the Uhler’s made the move to Lisbon Portugal in 1997 to continue church planting work with CA. In 2001, the Uhler’s partnered with Christian Surfers International and started Christian Surfers Portugal. Over the years many Portuguese surfers have come to Christ. Most recently the first ever “Christian Surfers Bible” has been published in continental Portuguese. It is now being distributed all over the country and getting national media attention.
Mark and Jane Cooke (1999-2001) were team leaders and pastors of ICB from July 1999 to January 2001. They have 5 children which are all grown, with three married and one attending university. Four of the five live in Charleston, South Carolina, and Rachel and her husband, Patrick Simonis, serve in full-time ministry in Recife, Brazil. Jane is currently an accounts manager for a small oil company, and together we are planting Healing Grace Church (Anglican Mission in the Americas) in New Bern, North Carolina. We continue to go to the nations regularly and together or individually the Cooke clan has ministered in 20 countries and five continents. We rejoice in what the Lord has done in and through ICB over the years, and we continue to hold you in our hearts and prayers.
Mike and Lynne Chandler (2001-2002) were pastors of ICB from January 2001 to December 2002. They left ICB to work in missions in Croatia. Currently they are living in the United States and serving in a ministry to missionaries called Caring Connection.
Troy and Heath
er Cady (1998-2001)and their children, Meaghan and Nicolas, were on the pastoral staff of ICB for 3 years. They were under missionary appointment with Christian Associates. After pasturing at ICB, the Cady’s were the lead pastors of a church plant at Mountainview International Church in Madrid, Spain. They are currently transitioning to the United States to help with multi-cultural church plants in the United States. If you would like to read more about the Cady’s please go to troymarbles.blogspot.com or heatherbetween.blogspot.com
Don and Judy Day (1993-1999) and their children helped establish ICB. They pastored and served the church for six year. Before their time in Barcelona, however, they worked in ministry in many other parts of the world. Currently Don and Judy are missionaries in Alicante, Spain with World Partners USA. They are using the Alpha Program to reach the people of this large international community with the aim of opening a coffee shop/Christian bookstore called “Global Zone” that will minister to children, youth and young families.
Frank Bouwen (2001-2004) served as assistant pastor at ICB from May 2001 to February 2004. He is now married to his wife Josefine and has two daughters. The Bouwens are currently involved in church-planting with two other families in Leiden, a university city in the west of the Netherlands. The aim of this church plant is to experience and exalt God, to connect people, to train followers of Jesus, to touch needs and to share their faith, in Leiden, throughout the Netherlands and around the world.
